OVERVIEW. New child care center for the employees of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, NETL, Center Campus in Morgantown, WV. The US Department of Energy saw this as an opportunity to push the envelope on energy efficient design. The project achieved LEED GOLD Certification and uses many new innovative systems. Among these are a modified ground source heat pump system, chilled beams for low transport energy, and solar photovoltaic collectors on the roof. Construction inspection was provided throughout the construction period to ensure compliance with contract documents, LEED requirements and site Environmental Health and Safety Standards. This project exemplifies Loftus’ ability to design a complex LEED building as well as supervise the construction.
